We’re on the look out for a Sub Editor.
We launched the First Edition of Shepherdess in March 2020, as a way of connecting, empowering and inspiring women in rural New Zealand through a high-quality print publication. We are currently going to print with our Third Edition, Spring.
We are seeking an experienced Sub Editor to join our small but passionate team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a gorgeous new publication that is seeking to uncover stories from all corners of New Zealand, and to share them on the national stage.
Shepherdess is published by Muster Vibrant Rural Communities Limited, a social enterprise with the mission of making rural women feel connected through community building, storytelling, and events.
As Sub Editor of Shepherdess, you will bring your excellent writing skills, sense for what makes a good story from your time working in print media, and your understanding and passion for rural New Zealand, to contribute to, and support the strong editorial foundation for, Shepherdess. You will be primarily responsible for helping to plan our feature stories, that are written by our team of freelancers based across New Zealand, and editing these stories to ensure they meet the style of our publication. You will also be writing headlines and stands. You will be primarily working with the Editor-in-chief and Copy Editor. See the Role Description for further details.
There is the opportunity for additional freelance writing too, to complement the Sub Editor role, if this was of interest.
This is a freelance position, with rates based on experience and to be discussed with the successful candidate. You can be based anywhere in rural or regional New Zealand.
To apply, please submit your Cover Letter, CV and examples of your written work (noting where written versus sub-edited) to editor@shepherdess.co.nz by Wednesday 16th September 2020.
